I passed three Trail of Tears sites in Arkansas: Fitzgerald Station and Farmhouse (one of the campsites mentioned primarily by the Canon detachment), the site where William Ruddick’s (Reddix) house used to be in Pea Ridge (a campsite and supply station for the detachments), and the Latta House in Prairie Grove which was moved to its current location from Evansville, AR (basically on the border between Arkansas and Oklahoma). Note the Bell detachment ended its journey at the Latta House.

I received a photocopy of part of Canon’s Journal from a sweet museum staff member at Prairie Grove. In addition to Butrick’s journal that I referenced a great deal, Morrow and Canon also kept journals which were more functional in nature, commonly noting where they camped and little more than that.
